Yellow Fever

Directed by BÉCACHE Jean-Daniel

Storyline

The recent phenomenon of massive Chinese immigration on African soil raises many social issues, both local and international. Bilateral trade between Africa and China has been multiplied by 50 in 20 years. This migration is causing a shake up of geopolitical statistics at which some Cameroonians smile. Who are these Chinese diplomats, doctors, engineers, retailers and Makossa singers, currently living in Yaoundé, Douala or in the bush? This documentary, whilst light hearted, presents objective truths reflecting local feeling. It raises these questions: To what extent can political positioning shape identities? Does History repeat itself with new colonialists, or is Africa to be the laboratory for testing a new World Era?
